About this Dog Blog

This digital painting is available as a print (takes you to Fine Art America website)

I believe that we have misunderstood dogs as a species, both their evolution and their current role in the world.

The vast majority of dogs are living as loved pets and wonderfully talented working animals. Dogs are beautifully designed for these roles as owned animals. However, there are also a great many dogs in warmer climates that live close to people but are unowned. To me these animals are not stray, they are doing exactly what nature designed them to do and on the whole they are not a problem to the humans they live around.

The real problem lies in the space between the owned dogs and the natural scavenger dogs and that is the issue I wish to explore in this dog blog.

As well as writing my own pieces I will post stray dog stories and news from around the globe that I hope can help to bring about a fuller understanding of our best friend’s place in the world.

I recognise that some of my views do not reflect many peoples' attitude to dogs. I just ask that you read with an open mind and discuss with civility.

Thank you,
Adrian Hillman.
